Change begins with transforming the “end” that educators are aiming toward. Take a look at what high standards really means: children thinking reasoning, solving problems, and communicating while using skills flexibly.

The National Mathematics Advisory Panel highlights the importance of teacher knowledge and effectiveness.

The National Mathematics Advisory Panel was charged in 2006 with making recommendations for improving mathematics. Its final report titled, “Foundations for Success,” was released in March of 2008. The report upholds the past direction supported by The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and we are pleased that its findings also correspond with the goals and strategies of Associates of Educational Success..

In essence, the report highlighted these issues of concern:

Streamlining the Curriculum

Factors That Boost Mathematical Achievement

The Importance of Effective Teachers

Research and Teachers’ Judgement Should Influence Instruction

Improving the NAEP and State Assessments

Building Research Capacity

While many of these issues are not new to educators, the panels’ findings further supports the direction in professional development and curriculum design that we have been advocating in schools.
